Al-Faisal University is a non-profit research university that had selected the OpenScholar platform for its website. OpenScholar is a Drupal distribution for academic and research work, built and maintained by Harvard University.

The Solution

Al-Faisal University chose Srijan to develop and maintain the website. Srijan conducted research on other websites, made recommendations on features and functionality, and developed wireframes based on the client’s requirements.

Using four designs provided by the university, Srijan then built the website from scratch on OpenScholar, customizing it to meet the university’s requirements.

Srijan simplified the navigation by adding redirects and missing links, and removing redundant links. Srijan also added menu labels, and carried out theming to improve the overall user experience.

Highlights

  • It allows users to create faculty activity reports, a feature that is used heavily by the client.
  • In line with the client’s requirement, Srijan also implemented and customized the Radioactivity module to display the most viewed Faculty pages.
  • It uses two different drupal themes.
  • Post development, Srijan provided three weeks of hands-on training to the faculty on navigating the website, making changes in the admin section, importing files, etc.

The website was featured on the OpenScholar home page among other prominent websites built on the platform.
